6th grade STEM students are starting off the year with “tower challenges” - first up: Pipe Cleaner Tower Challenge. Students were given 20 pipe cleaners and 15 minutes to build the tallest tower. Here’s what they came up with:
SMS BASEBALL (8/11): LOCATION CHANGE. There is a change in location for this afternoon's SMS Baseball game vs Neoga. The game will now be played at Wyman Park in Sullivan, IL at 4:30 PM.
MS Softball: We have added a game to our 2022-23 season. The game will be played against Pana MS at 4:30 PM on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Tanner Park in Pana, IL.
Tribe Trek '22 wrapped up today with a trip to Victory Field in Indianapolis to watch the Indians defeat the Louisville Bats. Thank you to the Friends of Sullivan Athletics and Academics, Sullivan Middle School Student Council, Sullivan Rotary Club, and the staff of Sullivan Schools for making these trips possible. SMS Cross Country Fun Run for tomorrow morning (7/26) has been canceled due to heavy rain in the forecast.

SMS girls basketball will be holding an open gym on Monday 7/11 from 6:00-7:00 PM in the SES gym for any 6th-8th grade girls interested in participating.
UPDATED SPORT CLINIC INFORMATION : The Sarah Bush Lincoln Clinic located at 7 Hawthorne Lane in Sullivan will be offering sports physicals for $20.00 on Monday August 8th from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM and by appointment only by calling 217-728-8441. Each $20.00 fee will be donated to the Sullivan Sports Boosters. Please note this change from the original information sent out yesterday.

The SMS staff was again victorious yesterday during the 16th annual Banana Race! The banana races are a series of competitive events where students earn points for their grade level. Each grade level competes against the others, and a team of staff members. We are so thankful to McDonalds, the Sullivan Bakery and Casey’s for generously donating food, and drinks, to our eating competitions. They are always a big hit!

Students in 7th grade social studies at SMS played the original Oregon Trail Game last week! Students were able to simulate the lives, struggles, and accomplishments of 19th century settlers and their families. Though some “perished” due to various accidents and diseases, a combined total of 17 students made it all the way from Independence, Missouri to the Oregon Country! Here are some of our high-scorers…
SMS is proud of IESA State Track Meet runners. Mae Dawkins, Kharli Kelly, Eiley Poe, and Devon Richardson placed 7th in their relay, Devon Richardson placed 8th in the 200M, and Johnathan Iacobazzi placed 13th in the 1600M. Way to go! #onetribe
