With our region being moved to Tier 1 mitigations, we are able to get some middle school sports started. At this point, MS Girls’ Volleyball (7th and 8th Grade) will be able to have a season that includes contests. There will be open gym Thursday (1/21) and Friday (1/22) from 2:30-3:30 in the HS gym. Tryouts will be held Monday (1/25) and Tuesday (1/26) from 2:30-4:30 in the elementary school gym. Masks are required at all times. Girls must have a valid physical on file to be able to try out on Monday. MS Boys’ Basketball are not currently allowed to have contests, but they can practice and have inter squad scrimmages. Open gyms will start for boys on Monday (1/25). 8th grade boys will have open gym from 4:30-6, at the elementary school, on Monday and Wednesday. 7th grade boys will have open gym from 4:30-6, in the elementary school, on Tuesday and Thursday. Game and practice schedules will be distributed to student athletes next week as we continue to finalize details on these seasons! We are excited to get athletes back in the gym! #onetribe

Congratulations to the SMS students who were nominated for the 1st quarter Breakfast of Champions. Unfortunately, we aren't able to hold our usual breakfast to honor them, but teachers still wanted to take the time to recognize students for going above and beyond. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Kfp50EE5VFMwqHsU_-bDFJ1NmX40qWkJSbmwJgKIf_o/edit?usp=sharing

SMS celebrated our fall sports athletes this morning my live streaming our recognition program to the rest of the building via Zoom. These coaches and athletes showed great determination to compete in spite of the obstacles, and we couldn't be more proud of our Redskins. Pictured are Joe Marks Award Recipients (L to R): Brooklyn Booker - Girls Cross Country, Gareth Coffer - Baseball, Addison Minor and Tabatha Webb - Softball. Not pictured: Curtis Kite - Boys Cross Country. We are #OneTribe

Students in 6th grade STEM class were given a Pumpkin Stand Challenge this week. They had to “buy” materials to create their stand. The pumpkin patch needed the tallest stand at the lowest costs. They had to strategize what materials they were willing to spend money on to get the height that they needed. Then, we figured out who won by calculating the unit rate of cost per centimeters. Our remote learner was even able to join in on the fun from home! Every group’s stand was able to hold the pumpkin. The group in the top left won with the lowest unit rate - they succeeded by getting most of their height with only one piece of card stock! #onetribe
