You can't see it in the picture, but every single Arcola player has a blue ribbon on her left shoe tonight. The entire team also showed up wearing blue as they entered the gym. Thank you, Purple Riders! #ClassAct #MightyTyson #OneTribe

In light of Friday’s tragedy, we will be making a slight change to the schedule for Homecoming week theme days. On Monday, instead of Dynamic Duo/Twin Day as our dress-up day, we are going to dress in blue in honor of Tyson, as that was his favorite color. We would like to invite the entire Sullivan community to participate as well. Additionally this week, the Sullivan PTO will be collecting for a memorial fund that will be donated to the family in remembrance of their loved one. This tragedy has affected us all, regardless of whether or not we knew Tyson. In times like these, we need to rely on each other and grow as a school family.

A Message from Sullivan School Superintendent Ted Walk to Parents: As you know, our Sullivan school family suffered a horrible tragedy yesterday. The loss of a student is all of our biggest fears and the reality of this tragedy is setting in. As parents, the loss of another student or your child’s peer is not something you are prepared for. We would like to offer a time for parents to come together to offer support to each other, as well as share some tips on how to speak to your students about this tragedy. This will be an informal meeting in the Sullivan Elementary School Gym at 4:30 pm on Sunday, September 29. Attendance is voluntary. The area crisis team, comprised of local school psychologists, school social workers, and school counselors has been assembled and will be in the district all day on Monday. They will provide counseling and support services to our students and any staff members that are in need. We will continue to assess the need for additional emotional support moving forward. Children grieve in a multitude of ways and in varied amounts of time. As we continue through this challenging process, please remember to contact the school if you notice that your child is having difficulty. We will work together, as a team, to provide the needed support and care for your child. If you have any specific questions, please contact Jessica Reeder, Sullivan School Psychologist and Special Education Coordinator, at reederj@sullivan.k12.il.us. Please continue to keep this family and our Sullivan School community in your thoughts and prayers.

This afternoon, a Sullivan school bus transporting eleven students was involved in an accident. It is with deep sorrow that we are reaching out to let our school family know that a Sullivan Elementary Student lost their life as a result of this tragedy. As soon as the school was notified, the administrative team and school social worker, went to the scene to provide support, ensure immediate notification to families, and assist with family reunification. On Monday, support and counseling services will be provided to students in all three buildings. . We will share additional counseling details as plans are finalized. Please keep this family and our entire school community in your thoughts and prayers.
