8th Graders at Sullivan Middle School had a great time today at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield.

Garrett’s and Rogers science classes took advantage of the sun today! 7th grade students tested radiant energy. 6th graders took plant pictures for a Picollage project.

Congratulations to Skyla Palmer for being the recipient of the Joe Marks awards for SMS Volleyball this year!

Big thanks to Mrs. Erica Lehman and Ag in the Classroom for bringing in chicken wings for the 8th graders to dissect today to help identify the different types of bone and cartilage they’ve been studying.

To celebrate Earth Day, 5th grade students in Ms. Heddins’ class spent their afternoon picking up trash at the park! Students couldn’t believe how much they found in just a small area of the park! #earthday2018

Sullivan Middle School students put the message from Living Lands and Waters into action by cleaning up 238 pounds of garbage from Tabor and Wyman Parks this afternoon. WE ARE #ONETRIBE!

Sullivan Middle School was happy to hear from Mike at Living Lands and Waters. He explained how his organization grew from one man on a mission of cleaning up the Mississippi River to a massive operation trying to clean all of our nation's rivers.

Students in Ms. Heddins 5th Grade mafh classes challenge each other on www.rulergame.net - on this website students are given measurements and they have to find that measurement on an interactive English ruler. Today they practiced with 1/8ths and even 1/16ths.

Lori Kirk’s class “up”cycled the balloons from Garrett’s and Rogers’ classes for the Up project to leave random positive notes on student lockers throughout the middle school. #onetribe

“Doug” made a surprise visit to the kids in Mr. Rogers’ 4th hour as a surprise end to the “Up” project. Not sure you can see his voice activator because of the rolls.

Thank you Sullivan Flower Pot for providing SMS with balloons! Mr. Rogers and Mrs.Garrett’s 7th graders had fun testing buoyant force on their lego houses!

Sullivan Middle School faculty, staff, and students would like to thank the Sullivan Community Education Foundation for their wonderful generosity and support. A number of initiatives were awarded with grants during the annual Staff Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, April 5th.

Mrs. Bates and Mrs. Winkels teamed up with Van Grissom from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to provide 6th graders with some fun learning opportunities! Students enjoyed meeting a variety of freshwater animals during a classroom presentation and becoming expert anglers with a day of fishing at Wyman Lake!

5th Grade students spend their week graphing survey results from all their “5th grade favorites.” Students worked with a partner to come up with a question to ask everyone, then they all took a survey using a Google form, and are now graphing their results! Just in case anyone was wondering, the Cubs are the overall favorite baseball team in 5th grade! Can you guess what teacher was put in charge of creating this post?

Students at Sullivan Middle School were honored at the third quarter Breakfast of Champions. These students have demonstrated tremendous character both in and out of the classroom. Congratulations Addison Owens, Dominique Reed, Luke Waelde, Wyatt Poynor, Lexie Hay, Hadarah Scott, Isabelle Owens and Ryan Lawyer. #OneTribe

SMS Parents, sign up for the reading competition! If students win, they get McDonald's. If parents win, students write a 1-page essay on their awesome parents! Signup link: http://bit.ly/2Irryty

The Sullivan Middle School Band was excited to work with Dr. Druffel from EIU this past Monday.

In an assembly this afternoon to recognize the accomplishments if our boys and girls basketball teams, Lilly Null and Ben Bushue were presented with the Joe Marks awards for their respective teams this year. Congratulations to both of these outstanding young people.
