Culinary 2 students have experienced an exciting spring semester. After delving into their advanced breakfast unit, they poured their hearts into mastering the art of creating stunning cinnamon sugar scones, each one a testament to their skill and dedication. Their journey continued in the advanced dairy unit, where they eagerly sampled a diverse array of cheeses, inviting Mr. Allen to join them in discovering the rich tapestry of flavors and textures that cheese has to offer. In their bread unit, they bravely experimented with beautiful focaccia art. Each loaf was not only visually appealing but bursting with flavor, igniting their senses and their creativity. Now, they are immersed in their Cakes, Pies, and Desserts Unit, where they've had the incredible opportunity to taste a variety of delicious cakes, learn how to cut, serve, and present them and craft perfect pie crusts from scratch filling their work with pride. These aspiring chefs are truly blossoming, growing in skill, confidence, and love for the culinary world every single day.

Culinary 1 students have discovered that cooking is so much more than just a simple task, it’s an exciting adventure! They’ve learned to read recipes, measure ingredients with precision, and even make pancakes from scratch, realizing the magic that happens when hot butter meets cold milk and eggs—creating a delightful moment in the kitchen. Cooking for real has ignited a passion within each student, turning everyday tasks into memorable experiences. We crafted edible cookie dough to sharpen our measurement skills and practice our kitchen math, turning a sweet treat into a powerful lesson. Along the way, we’ve uncovered the vital roles within the culinary world, understanding how every job contributes to a smooth, bustling kitchen. As spring arrived, our focus shifted to the vibrant flavors of fruits and vegetables, inspiring us to create incredible pizzas with fresh ingredients and learn about the vital nutrition they provide. Ms. Voegel’s spice tasting adventure took us on a sensory journey through herbs and spices, awakening palates and inspiring us to elevate our culinary creations. It’s been a busy semester filled with growth and discovery, and I can’t wait to see what’s next on our flavorful journey!

Intro to FCS students have had an exhilarating journey this semester. They have tirelessly explored the countless pathways available to them, igniting excitement about their futures. This incredible group has built a solid foundation of teamwork, learning to support and uplift each other, lessons that will resonate throughout their lives beyond the classroom. In the career exploration unit they’ve poured their hearts into mastering the skills of filling out job applications, crafting resumes, preparing for interviews, and envisioning the exciting career paths ahead. They’ve pictured themselves in the world of fashion and design, even daring to create their own fashion labels, sparking their creativity and ambition. We are truly fortunate to have Ms. Hill, a dedicated practicum student from EIU, join us this semester. Her guidance has introduced them to the captivating world of culinary arts and emphasized crucial kitchen safety, lessons that could inspire future chefs and food enthusiasts. Though we still have a few more pathways to explore before our time together concludes, I am genuinely proud of how much this group has learned and how much they’ve grown. Their enthusiasm and eagerness to discover their potential fills me with excitement for what’s to come.
