5th graders learned all about grain bin safety at Ag Safety Day today. They used a simulator to see how much weight they could pull up out of a bin. They were pretty strong!

Shout out to these fine young ladies who stayed behind to pick up trash after middle school lunch in the Commons. Nobody asked them to do it, but they did it anyway. #OneTribe

Students in Mrs. Standerfer's class worked on a Civil War photo analysis using the Library of Congress. Students analyzed the "Dictator" photo as a class, then had the opportunity to find a photo, create questions for their photo and then finished the activity by analyzing another groups photo.

Students at Sullivan Middle School spent the morning giving back to the community by participating in a school-wide service project. Students were split into groups performing tasks around the community. Students painted pumpkins for Oktoberfest, helped prepare the square for Oktoberfest, volunteered at local nursing homes, and assisted the Corps of Engineers with shoreline clean-up and preparation of handicap deer blinds for hunting season. We are proud of our students for their willingness to step up and help make Sullivan a great place to live. We are #OneTribe!

Students in 7th grade STEM wrapped up the unit by playing a game simulating the entire process of putting together an aircraft from beginning to assembly. Issues on cards along the way were real issues in the building of the 787 DreamBus.

Students in 7th grade STEM simulated the building of an airplane fuselage by different companies similar to the Boeing 787. They were given the specs and with classroom materials had to make a mold for the cast then had to join with two other “companies” to connect the fuselage. The resulting aircraft were not quite “flight worthy”.

Girls on the Run ROCKED tonight! The girls ran for 40 minutes, which was their longest run so far. Every single girl exceeded the lap goal they set, and everyone finished with a smile on their face. The girls get a band every time they finish a lap around the track, and they were proud of all of their bands tonight. All together they ran 187 laps, which is about 48 miles! The girls ran with an attitude of gratitude and made their coaches so proud!

Sullivan Middle School changed things up a bit today to focus on building a better understanding of empathy and the importance of being kind. A big thank you goes out to our friends at the Little Theater on the Square for hosting us for the movie Wonder this morning. After lunch, we were fortunate to hear a very positive and inspiring message from our guest, Mr. Dan Lynch, principal of Crestwood School in Paris, IL. Students were then able to attend an afternoon of workshop-style sessions on topics ranging from bullying to self esteem. The students were great from start to finish. Sullivan Middle School is ready to #BeTheChange! #OneTribe

5th grade science students got to experience the Science Lab at the Middle School on Monday. They checked the solubility of different kinds of matter and made observations based on which substances dissolved in water. For the rest of the week, they are making observations to see what happens to those substances after they dissolve! Is it still there? They will be checking their cups this week as the water evaporates to see if there is any trace of their matter. Being able to utilize the lab is a great experience for our younger students! #onetribe
