Sullivan High School Junior, Cullen Dyer was recently elected President of the Eastern Illinois District Association of Student Councils at the annual convention at Eastern Illinois University. Over the next year Cullen will represent the EIDASC by traveling to different schools in the district, run monthly district meetings, representing the district at the State Convention and LEAD Convention, and overall work to improve the relationships between member schools. Cullen is currently the Sullivan High School Student Council Vice President and is the son of Karen and Doug Dyer.

Recently, the National English Honor Society went on a field trip to Barnes and Noble Bookstore. Students learned about researching, book selections, purchasing books for other people, and preparing books for checkout. The group purchased 84 books for the library at Sullivan High School.

SHS Recognized for 100 Years of Accreditation!
Recently, Sullivan High School was recognized for its 100th year of continuous accreditation. Dr. Lori Hopkins, Director for AdvancED Illinois, came to the high school to present the faculty with the award. This award recognizes Sullivan High School for their commitment to quality and continuous improvement since 1917. In order to maintain their accreditation, Sullivan High School must prepare for and host a rigorous on-site review every five years to ensure they are meeting standards set forth by AdvancED.

The Best-Shirey-Little Chapter of the National English Society at Sullivan High School has been awarded the 2016-2017 Outstanding Chapter Award. This award is given to only one of over 800 chapters per year. The club currently has 63 members ranging from sophomore to senior, and for acceptance, each member must earn at least a 3.0 overall GPA as well as at least a 3.0 English GPA. The club will be awarded with a plaque and $250. Chapter Advisor is Cami Badman. Faculty Council includes Lesley Banks, Rebecca Lawson, and Annie McClellan. Included is the 2016-2017 Induction picture from December 2016.

Miss Lawson and Mrs. Badman presented at the 9th Annual Eastern Illinois Writing Project Institute Day on Friday, 10/13.

The library challenged the high school English classes to read. First to fifty won! Mrs. Badman's class finished first, and students who read at least one book got a pizza party in the library.

Mrs. Hardimon's Calc class participated in a Goose Chase today. Students used the app to complete missions pertaining to limits and asymptotes. One of them was to take a selfie with Mrs. McFarland!
