4th Quarter Breakfast of Champions: Davis Diepholz nominated by Mr. Chris Wilson I FINALLY got Davis in show choir, and it has been a true blessing! This young man is a showstopper and has such great character. I am so excited that I get the opportunity to teach him even more. I love the guy more than life itself!

4th Quarter Breakfast of Champions: Brycen Wildman nominated by Mrs. Wright. Brycen Wildman was a fantastic student all year, but I am really proud of his work during e-learning. Not only did he participate in class on a regular basis and always have his work turned in, but he was also kind and helpful to others. Although we weren’t in the classroom for the fourth quarter, he didn’t let that stop him from staying connected. Brycen logged onto both of my Zoom sessions each week, and continued to stay on top of his homework. He watched the instructional videos posted and would email me for any clarification or help that was needed. I really enjoyed seeing Brycen on my weekly zooms and it was a pleasure to have in my class this year.

4th Quarter Breakfast of Champions: Emerson Risley nominated by Mrs. Yoder. Emerson was a great student all year, and that did not change during e-learning. She always came to class with a smile on her face, ready to work hard. Emerson is a genuinely kind person. She cares about those around her, and is always willing to help a classmate. She put a smile on my face every day, and I loved starting the day with her in my classroom! During e-learning she stayed on top of her assignments, even emailing me a few times when I posted a little later than normal. She put great effort into her work, just like she did while we were in the classroom. Thank you, Emerson, for being a great kid!

4th Quarter Breakfast of Champions: Hayden Nohren nominated by Mr. Rogers. Hayden did an outstanding job staying up to date on all assignments through the e-learning process. He stayed very positive and sent a few positive emails to me as well. He just exhibited the type of behavior I wish more of us could have during this entire process. He was responsible, kind, accountable, and most importantly he was very caring as well. Thank you for all your hard work and kindness.

4th Quarter Breakfast of Champions: Benjamin and Dominic Mast nominated by Mrs. Bates. I feel like sixth graders in general rocked e-learning! Students were responsible, accountable and engaged, but Ben and Dom Mast surpassed all of my expectations. I’m confident that the boys would agree with my assessment that school work was never their favorite thing to do. They had games to play and cats to care for. However, when faced with the new challenge of e-learning, they knocked it out of the park. They joined every one of my Zoom sessions, participated in discussions, completed every assignment well and on time, and kept positive attitudes throughout the entire process. I would be remiss to not mention the incredible support system these boys have at home with a mother that was determined to help her boys succeed. Her enthusiasm for learning was instrumental in keeping the boys on track while learning digitally from home. I’m so proud of these boys and the work they put in over the last couple of months, and I hope they can be confident in their ability to be successful in school as they continue their educational career. They’ve both proven that they can rise to the occasion and accomplish anything that they set their minds to.

This morning, Adan Mills was presented with the Joe Marks Award for Boys’ Basketball. Here is what Coach Typer had to say: This years 8th grade team had alot of guys that were athletic and talented in different ways to help their team. Even with talent, to be successful you have to have everyone play and practice hard and then take that over into a game and lead and execute. This year’s leader and hardest player, along with leading us in scoring and rebounds was Adan Mills. Congrats, Adan!! #onetribe

This morning, Tessa Seeley was presented with the Joe Marks Award for Volleyball. Here’s what Coach Martin had to say about Tessa: This year for the Joe Marks Award, I chose a girl who was a great asset to the team in many ways. This girl always kept a positive attitude, would pick up the team if they got down, worked her hardest every practice and game, asked questions to better herself and her team, would jump in whereever she was needed with no complaint, kept the team laughing, as well as, improved her serving, blocking, hitting, and digging skills throughout the season. This girl was a great team leader! For the 2020 middle school volleyball season, Tessa Seeley is the recipient of the Joe Marks Award. Congrats, Tessa! #onetribe

4th Quarter Breakfast of Champions: Jade Mckee nominated by Coach Bales Jade was in a P.E. class of over 40 students, mostly boys, and she never complained about having to wait for equipment, or for performing a skill with such a large, loud class. She always did what was asked of her and was always one of the volunteers who helped transport equipment, listened to instructions the first time and was helpful to all her classmates. Jade was even helpful in reminding me that I had Krispy Kreme donuts from a fundraiser. I , of course, forgot that I ordered them right before the COVID-19 shutdown. She emailed me and her parents brought her to the library to deliver them. She could have had some awesome donuts, because I had forgotten, but she did the right thing, as always, and delivered them to me. Thank you, Jade, for being an awesome young lady!!

SMS 4th Quarter Breakfast of Champions: Adien Davenport nominated by Ms. Garrett. From the very beginning of our e-learning, Adien has done a fantastic job! He put in the effort to turn in quality assignments. Adien logged in to weekly Zoom meetings and always had a smile on his face! I have enjoyed having Adien as both a 6th and 7th grade student. He works hard and is a smart, kind individual. Thank you Adien for setting a good example for your peers!

SMS 4th Quarter Breakfast of Champions Kylie Swaim & Addison Stollard were both nominated by Mrs. Wade While a lot of my students did very well over the course of the Fourth Quarter, from home, this year, Kylie and Addison both stood out. There were a couple of times where assignments I posted were not quite as I intended, or I accidentally set the date incorrectly for their class section. These two were polite and prompt in checking in with me to see if there was a problem and if it could be fixed. I was able to catch minor errors that could have turned into more major problems if they hadn’t noticed so quickly. Additionally, they were both diligent in completing their work, and sometimes asking for it a little bit earlier than I’d planned on posting. Their work was of high quality and it was obvious that they cared about their grades staying up despite the obstacle of doing things outside of the normal classroom environment.

School Meal and Learning Packet Update This is a reminder that there will be no school meals served on Friday, April 10. Additionally, we are implementing a few new protocols to limit our staff and community exposure while continuing to provide fresh meals. Starting next week and moving forward, the Town Meals and Kitchen Pick-Up meals will be offered only on Tuesday (3 meals) and Friday (2 meals). Rural meals will continue to be delivered on Mondays and Thursdays with no changes. We apologize for the changes and hope to be able to maintain this schedule for the duration of the closure. We will have our Learning Packet Drop-Off and Pick-Up on Tuesday, April 14. from 1-6pm. Once again, SES students will drop off and pick up materials on the west side of SES, and SMS/SHS students will drop off and pick up items at the Commons. We hope that you are staying safe and healthy. We miss our kids and look forward to the time when we can see them again. Please continue to do your best, but do not hesitate to reach out to teachers with questions. Thanks for your continued support of Sullivan Schools!

We have recieved a number of calls inquiring about the One Book One Sullivan Community Book Discussion that is scheduled for 6pm tonight at the First United Methodist Church. We do plan to continue with this event as planned. Obviously, we are always very excited about this event, and we love to see the amazing turnout of community members who are excited to discuss this year's book with our students; however, we also encourage everyone to make the best decision possible for their own individual health. If you are feeling any symptoms of a respiratory illness, we would ask that you abstain from this event. Also, if you have any health issues which have proven to be a concern for those who have contracted COVID-19, we would also ask that you abstain from this event. Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to see as many of you tonight as possible.

On Monday, February 10th, Sullivan will be conducting the Illinois Youth Survey with our 8th grade class. Attached is a document that explains the survey in great detail. We have been participating in this survey for many years, and it does provide us with a great snapshot of the issues our students are facing so that we can coordinate pro-active supports to assist them. At the bottom of the form is a section that parents can complete in order to opt out of the survery. Students are also given the opportunity to opt-out themselves at the time of the survey, so it is completely voluntary on their behalf.

Statement Regarding Sullivan Show Choir Competition on Saturday, January 25, 2020. As of the afternoon of Friday, January 24th, weather sources are forecasting overnight snow ranging from 2-6 inches for the area surrounding Crete-Monee with forecasted temperatures in the low 30’s during the timeframe that our Show Choir buses will be making their way to the competition venue. While we are incredibly proud of the tradition of excellence that exists in our Show Choir program and are very excited for them to compete on Saturday, we believe that a big part of “Thinking of Students First” is keeping their safety first and foremost in our decision making. We will continue to monitor weather forecasts throughout the evening, and the plan moving forward is to send our show choirs to Crete-Monee as planned; however, we will be sending an administrator along with the buses to continuously monitor road conditions to determine if the buses may proceed or should turn around and come home. If the decision is made that it is no longer safe to proceed, the buses will turn around as soon as it is safe to do so and return immediately to Sullivan High School. Notification of a decision to turn around would be communicated through the district’s social media platforms and through the Singers Booster Club.

The Sullivan CUSD 300 received a very complimentary letter that we would like to share with permission from the writer. Could not be prouder of our students at Sullivan CUSD 300. From Jenny Crockett Ripple Today I was privileged to be allowed to volunteer for the middle school kids so their teachers could enjoy a staff luncheon. Myself along with three other parent volunteers supervised lunch and an extended recess for 5-8 grades. I wanted to commend the children who offered respectful platitudes of please, thank you, and more of the same. Kids will be kids, but I have to say we have some extraordinary kids at SMS and this is something cultivated both at school and at home. Big shout out to the village that it takes to raise respectful, kind kiddos. In today’s world that seems to be a challenge due to the many changes we see as a society. There were many proud moments watching the kids interact and play today. What stuck out to me the most was the girl spending some of her recess time picking up litter in the park. Another student helped his friend after he took a fall, and made sure he wasn’t injured before helping him up. These examples are just a few of what I personally noticed today. It pleases me much that this is the behavior that is being instilled into our kids from not only parents and caretakers at home, but we have some amazing staff at our school that is an integral part of this excellence. Thank a teacher soon, even if it isn’t teacher appreciation day!

The faculty and staff at SMS is very excited for students to return to our building tomorrow. We hope they had a great summer and are ready for all of the exciting things we have in store for them this year. Just a few reminders: -First period begins at 8:15, so students need to be in the building with enough time to get to their lockers and be in class by 8:15. A student entering after 8:15 will be considered tardy to school (see Student Handbook). -We will have a full day of student attendance on the first day of school, so we will dismiss at 3:15 as usual. -Please adhere to our new traffic flow policy and refrain from pulling through our parking lot to pick-up or drop-off between 7:45-8:15 and 3:00-3:30. -Student planners are available for purchase at a price of $6.50. In addition to being a great resource for students to stay organized (includes school calendar and other helpful organization tools), the planners include a coupon for free fries at McDonalds, $5 off an oil change at Neal Tire, and free student or adult admission to one home sporting event, so the value of the coupons exceeds the cost of the planner. Once again, we would love to see every student with one of these in their hands. Students can purchase before school in room 106 or parents can purchase in the school office.
